The Hunt…

I’ve heard of this creature whispered in taverns throughout Azeroth and Outlands.

Ever since Northrend had opened up, there were sightings, and even skirmishes with a beast seldom seen.  It wasn’t of this world, yet for some reason chose to walk amidst the animals of the Scholazar Basin from time to time.

He was never in the same place twice; and then only for a fleeting moment or two.

I even heard a name once…just once.

Loque’nahak

Odd.  Such an odd name.  It speaks of intelligence beyond the norm.  What could this creature be?

I knew the moment I heard the name, that I would seek him out.  I was a hunter, it is what I do.  This would be the hunt of a lifetime, something I had to do.

From all the rumors I had heard, I knew I wasn’t a match for him at the time.  So, I set out for Northrend, intending to develop my abilities as much as possible.  I traveled both the Tundra and the Fordje.  I made my way through grizzly bedecked hills, and the wastes of Dragonblight.  When I finally felt I was ready, I set off for Scholazar Basin.

I had heard he enjoyed spending his limited time in the area around the gorillas.  Most of them were fairly docile, as long as you didn’t get to close and anger the males.  So, I set up a small shelter…a lean-to of sorts on the eastern side of the Basin.  I found the main congregating areas of the gorillas, and planned out a rout to travel several times throughout the day.

And I waited.

I waited for days.

Days turned into a week.

Then a week turned into two.  And two turned into…

I thought I was a hunter with patience, but my patience was wearing thin.  I began to hear things.  I began to see glints of things out of the corner of my eye.  I knew I had to give up the hunt, if not for a little bit; lest I go insane by the isolation.

I gathered my things, what little I had with me, and set out for Nesingwary’s base camp.  From there I flew back to Valiance Keep, for a hot meal and a warm bed.  I spent a few days traveling the Tundra, helping out where  I could.  But, the hunt called back to me.  Loque’nahak called to me, or so it seemed.

I woke up in a fit.

I saw eyes in my dream.  Ghostly, glowing eyes.  I saw a maw, filled with razor sharp teeth.  I saw a glistening hide, with an ethereal radiance to it; speckled with strange…almost rune-like markings all over it.  It looked like a great cat, but not like any cat on Azeroth that I’ve seen.  To be sure, this was no feline.

Still, I awoke in a sweat; and I knew I had to get back to the Basin.  I knew not if it was a challenge, or a request; but it seemed that Loque’nahak had become conscious of my self-imposed quest.

I gathered my meager belongings, and paid the last of my bill.  Decided to pay the Gryphon Master his due, for an expedited trip.  I soon found myself in the skies of Northrend headed towards Scholazar Basin.

Just as we peaked over the mountains, north of the wolfman’s village, and southwest of Nesingwary’s camp; I saw something.  I barely made it out, and the gryphon was kind enough to fly a little lower.

There!  Just a glint off a tooth.

Surrounded by Dreadsabers, yet totally unmolested he stood.  Right at that moment, he looked up at me and let out a deafening roar, frightening the gryphon I was on.  It bolted back up into the sky, making hastely towards Nesingwary’s camp.

When I landed, I could barely stand.  My knees were shaking, and I couldn’t think straight.

Did I really see him?  Did he really see me?  Did he really see me?

I had to go, I had to get there quickly lest he tired of his time in the Basin.

I had to reach Loque’nahak.

By my pen,

I finally made it!

Level 80

Level 80

I think it is ironic that I made lvl 80 by fulfilling the whole Har’koa quest line.

The Spirit Beast, Loque’nahak,  is supposed to be the “mate of Har’koa.”  It was almost like he allowed me to tame him, just so I could use him to help his goddess wife out.

In other news, I have named my Spirit Beast pet: “RuAhk.”  It is a version of the Hebrew word for spirit: “Ru’Ahh.”

Be well, and hunt wisely.

It was so cold.

The snow reflected the light with such intensity, it was blinding. My face was becoming raw from the cold wind.

I need a new cloak, some new pants and jerkin. I definitely need some new boots. This cold wasn’t quite what I was expecting.

I was taken in by a sweet dwarf lady, named Donova Snowden. She lived next to a hot spring, and had a cozy fire on which we roasted rabbits that we caught. Hot springs! I couldn’t believe it! It was so warm, so wonderfully warm. Granted, it was hard getting to the tent from the spring without ice forming on my beard. But, it was so nice to just soak.

She told me a great deal about Frostsaber Rock and the Wintersaber Trainers. She was also worried about the Furbolgs in the area. I told her I would look into the Furbolg situation, but my primary reason for being here was the Wintersaber Trainers. She seemed to understand, she also smiled and shook her head. “You best be careful, Night Elf. There are sabers that encircle the rock; and they don’t take kindly to strangers. Don’t get yer arse ate off!” She giggled as she said it.

I smiled back at her and said, “No worries. I’m just going to see what it is like. I don’t plan on being close enough to be eaten by anything. I also need some skins and fur. I need something warmer encasing my frail exterior.” She snorted and stuck her tongue out at me as I waved and walked away.

“Come Darcy,” I said. My friend for many years, from Darkshore. She was a Moonstalker Matriarch. I found her in a trap, with her young dead around her. She was barely alive. I don’t know why, but I released her. By Elune, she was heavy! But, I carried her back to Auberdine and nursed her back to health. She has been my steadfast companion every since.

She loped beside me, beyond me, off the trail, beyond view. I can’t say that I tamed her, as much as she puts up with my existence. *chuckle*

I saw it in the distance…Frostsaber Rock. Its huge!

I was told that the trainers liked to sit at the top, meeting travelers there, who are brave…or perhaps foolish enough.

Something was wrong. It was quiet, to quiet. Looking around, I didn’t see any animals, didn’t hear any animals. Darcy seemed to stay closer to my side than usual, with her ears peeled back across her skull.

That isn’t good.

So, I stop. I close my eyes, listening intently.

There it is! A soft crunch of snow.

I open my eyes, but I don’t focus in on any one thing. I was looking for movement, probably very slow movement. I would only catch a glimmer, if I was lucky.

There it is! In the distance, up the road, in between us and Frostsaber Rock was a cat. It was a solid white cat…and it has seen us! In the snow, she…is it a she…can barely be noticed. She is practically invisible. She is huge, and I can only guess how horrible an opponent she would be. I might have to face her one day, but not today.

I tap Darcy on the shoulder, motion with my head. She nods, and we both begin to walk unhurriedly back up the road towards the camp.

I hear a sharp roar, a mocking roar. I know from which throat it has come.

I Haz Spirit Beast!!!!!111ONE!!!

I can’t hardly believe it.  I found him by accident, and was fortunate enough to be able to tame him.  I’m thinking up a name at the moment.  If anyone happens to read this, please feel free to recommend something.
