I swear, I should start a blog by that name.
FraidyTank!
A blog of Tankadin Mediocrity and Unwillingness to Tank Current Content!
What do you think? Could I get a following?
I’m not sure why, but I continue to do everything but tank on my lvl 85+ Paladins.
Lord, I have three of them!
You would think that I would have tried my hand at it by now. But no, it hasn’t happened yet. I always figure out something to do. I might do some pet battles. I might grind out some ore for blacksmithing. I might decide to not try it, for fear of messing up and giving which ever guild tag I’m wearing a bad name.
One thing that stays the same, is that none of them make it into an instance.
I blame no one but myself. I just need to go do it.
Now…
Where is that ore!

P.s. I should also add that I’m lazy. The idea of going through guides for ever stinking instance/raid/whatever is overwhelming to my huntard brain!

You don’t really need guides for instances. Just get together some friends or mindless minions to experiment with. They’ll be sure to tell you want you’re doing wrong but in a constructive kind of way. Or you could just become a healadin! Although I’ll admit that idea is because I prefer to heal on my paladin rather than tank.
It sucks that there is so much pressure on that one role, doesn’t it? I’d love dearly to main a tank one day, but alas, I am too chicken (Plus, that one time my guild asked me to tank the Stone Guardians I was *this* close to deleting my toon and never playing WoW again. I had NO idea what I was supposed to be doing).
Like Tyledres said, round up some friends to run instances. We’re a patient and forgiving lot and odds are there will even be a tank in the party or someone who really knows the class (especially if it’s Heablade…my god that dude and plate classes…) and can point out little things that will help you along the way.
It’s that or start from scratch and as soon as you hit 15, start doing dungeons and nothing but with that tank toon. lol
My Paladin is dual-specced Prot/Holy, so I always have this argument with myself when I’m thinking about playing her: do I Tank because she’s my Tanking Experiment #1, or do I Heal because healing is the role that I’m most comfortable with in group content?
Once I get over my inhibitions about queueing as a Tank — which always reappear when I haven’t played the character for awhile — I’ve found that Paladin tanking is rather fun. But when I get to a level where bosses will actually require tactics and careful positioning and stuff… then I might go heals
